The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has been instituting a variety of streamlining measures in an effort to run more efficiently. As the state searches for new methods to better serve the citizens, DEQ has taken several steps to both save money and maximize resources. Some of DEQ’s cost saving measures have included reducing the size of their vehicle fleet, closing their laboratory, closing a regional office, integrating or consolidating certain job responsibilities and actively partnering with other state agencies to better reinforce and utilize resources. By fiscal year 2011, DEQ’s goal is to operate free of any funding from the state’s general fund.
